After breakfast, you will spend the morning hours walking in the company of an armed ranger and our safari guide and visiting some spectacular attractions such as the lava flow, enjoy guided walks in the open plains.
Explore sections of one of the longest “Lava Tube” caves in the world – Leviathan. These caves were formed when molten lava flowed down a slope of a specific angle. The surface layer cooled and solidified but the lower part still molten continued to flow. Somewhere up the hillside, a collapse of the surface crust occurred through which air entered, and so a tube evacuated itself just below the surface.
Chyulu Hills National Park is situated on the Northwest of Tsavo West National Park. It is made up of volcanic cinder cones that formed millions of years ago. These cones form spectacular caves and are home to the world’s longest lava tube, the leviathan. These lava rocks are porous and therefore they keep the surrounding areas abundant with fresh water for use by wild animals. Visitors are able to have a fantastic view of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the leviathan and plenty of wild game. Visitors can also be able to take part in cave exploration trips.
Chyulu Hills are mainly of volcanic origin bordered by an expanse of black lava flow known as “Shetani”. The park is a paradise to elephant herds, plains game and predators, Maasai villages and the spectacular view of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The park has no permanent surface water but rainfall percolating through the porous rock feeds many permanent fresh water sources in the surrounding plains. Some major attractions found in this park include breathtaking views of Mt. Kilimanjaro from the Chyulu Hills, cave walking and exploration.
Early morning game drive or short walk before returning to the lodge for late breakfast. Thereafter drive down the hill for the drive back to Nairobi.
We have an option for extension: This safari program can be combined with Amboseli / Tsavo National Parks.
